Deciding when—or whether—to go back to college as a working adult can be tough. Here are some questions to help you make the right choice for you.

  1. Why do you want to earn your degree?
  2. How will you juggle coursework with work and family?
  3. Can you learn and grow without returning to college?
  4. Can you afford it?

Consider your responses to the above questions about your motivation, time, energy, flexibility at work,  finances, and learning preferences. Are you in a place with those resources that make school realistic for you right now? Think also about whether you have your ducks in a row at school, such as unblocking any holds on your student account and a clear sense of which requirements you’d need to meet to graduate. Then, ask yourself whether you have what you need to succeed or whether you still have work to do. This can help you determine your timeline on returning.

Reach out to a ReUp Coach via the sidebar on your dashboard if you ever need help deciding when a return to school would be best for you. 

This depends on how many credits you have remaining and whether or not you'd like to return part-time or full-time. Reaching out to your school to discuss this with an admissions counselor or your academic advisor will provide you with the most accurate timeline that works best for you.

This depends on your previous major and the progress you've made during your previous attendance. This would also be a great question to ask your admissions counselor or your academic advisor.

You should ask your advisor or admission counselor any and all questions that you may have regarding returning to your degree. Make a list of concerns and formulate questions based on that list and potential resources that you may need to feel most successful moving forward.

Your admissions counselor (also known as your academic advisor) can assist you with registration, changing your major, adding/dropping courses, etc. Your ReUp Success Coach is an additional resource to help you navigate every step of the process of going back to school from re-enrollment to graduation. You can reach out to your Success Coach at any time, for any help that you need along the way.

A career decision is a big one with so many influential factors that play key roles in your decision making. Start with a resource like O*NET or the Holland Code Career Test that can provide you with some answers to questions that you may have about choosing the right career for you. You can also connect with your school's career development center for resources they have available or make an appointment to speak directly with a career counselor. You can locate your school-specific FAFSA code on the financial aid webpage on the school website.

To apply for financial aid, visit www.studentaid.gov and click Apply Now. You may want to schedule some time to sit down and complete the application in its entirety. Learn more about financial aid here.
